ALPHABANDS! A is for ALLIN (GG)

Time for another round of the alphabet project! I only had time to take part in a small portion of Alphabots and that bummed me out! When the decision was made to do bands this time around I really didn’t want to miss out.

I decided to do baby versions of punk/hardcore bands. Though I think there might be some metal bands in there as well. Seeing as how I’m pretty busy I needed to pick something quick for A to kick things off. After much back and forth on first name vs. last name and subject matter vs. time I made a decision late last night and….

A is for Allin (GG)
gg allin baby

While I’m still a little uneasy about doing GG Allin for A, the image itself is a good representation of what I want to do for this project. Plus, GG Allin is a powerful visual, heh heh. I had laid out an Anthrax, but I just didn’t have time to get it finished. Also considered Avail and ANTiSEEN (which led to the decision to do Allin.) There was also a brief courting of At the Drive In… mostly, one dude won over multiple dudes time wise.

Next time I’ll write more about the band. This time I’ll say look up GG Allin if you are unfamiliar. Don’t look him up with your kid in your lap.

METAPHASE KICKSTARTER!

The day is here! METAPHASE writer, Chip Reece, has kicked of the kickstarter kick for METAPHASE!

metaphase cover pass2

If you’re unfamiliar with METAPHASE, it’s a story that follows a super hero who happens to have Down Syndrome. The story Chip has written draws it’s inspiration from his own personal experiences with his son, Ollie (who also shared his name with the books main character. I’m drawing the book and Peter Simeti is lettering (of Alterna Comics and also letterer on EGO TRIPP with me). I feel like I do a horrible job explaining the book, so I think I’ll let Chip and Ollie do it for me via THE METAPHASE KICKSTARTER!

You can also check out the preview issue if you never got a chance for free on Comixology!
METAPHASE #0 ON COMIXOLOGY!

This is a project with a lot of heart and we appreciate anything you can do by way of sharing, donating, both or skywriting!

Don’t forget to check out all of the rewards as well! We have been lucky enough to have a lot of fantastic artists offer up new art for pin up’s and prints!

IN 2014 THE RIVERS WILL RUN BLACK WITH INK!

Here we are at the beginning of 2014. It’s already looking to be a pretty busy year for me and I have loads to talk about but, I’ll just touch on a couple of the more important things…

THE CABINET!
Perhaps the most important thing! Good news everyone! I’ll be done drawing THE CABINET within the next couple weeks! It’s like I’m yelling at you because I keep using exclamation marks!!!
It’s true though. There are less than 20 pages left to draw. I’ve been bouncing back and forth on other projects and doing big chunks of this book for awhile now. It’s finally almost here and should be available to all the Kickstrter backer really soon. I’m also going to be getting started on some of the reward drawings for backers that have ’em coming in the next week or so.

Here’s a page to whet your whistler:

EGO TRPP!
The web comic I’m drawing that’s written by Ross Thibodeaux and lettered by Peter Simeti, EGO TRIPP had a short break over the holidays and is back today with a new installment! While I’m finishing up THE CABINET we are changing up the schedule a bit so keep an eye on it! READ EGO TRIPP!

METAPHASE!
Yes, METAPHASE is finally moving again. Writer Chip Reece is finalizing the details for the Kickstarter and that should begin sometime in the next couple weeks. There are a lot of great artists that have done some drawings to help out and there will be a lot of cool stuff. I finished a new cover for the book the other day and here is a peek..

Of course there will be more on the kickstarter once it launches.

GRAYHAVEN STUFF!
I’m still doing things with Grayhaven Comics here and there when I have a minute. I’ve recently done a couple covers for them too. One is for the PUBLIC DOMAIN anthology.

It looks a little like this…

I also illustrated a story in that book that I’m pretty happy with.

The other is for the HEY KIDS FANTASY anthology. I just did this one over the last couple days. It’s the first time I’ve painted a cover, it was fun!

It resembles this…

I also have a couple other stories in other books from them as well.

And it’s just the first of the year! I haven’t even mentioned the Sci Fi thing I’m working on with Antony Del Col (of KILL SHAKESPEARE) yet!

I’m also going to be at a few cons this year, so keep an eye out!

I’m drawing a new web comic! (and a quick THE CABINET update.

I was wondering yesterday why I don’t have a blog, then I remembered I do! It’s been a hectic year, between all the hospital dramas at the beginning and the scurrying to get caught up as more and more projects came across my table. It’s been hard to find time to keep up with these posts. I’m crossing my fingers that I can start posting here a bit more regularly soon.

For today though, I just wanted to post something really quickly announcing that a webcomic I’ve been working on with writer Ross Thibodeaux (being lettered by Peter Simeti) is launching tomorrow (Sunday, December 8th). It’s called EGO TRIPP and pays some homage to old newspaper comics by way of nods to Dick Tracy and the like. It’s a bit of comedy with a smidgen of noir with a nice thick layer of surprises! It’s pretty exciting. We’re going with a goal of 8 pages every Sunday. So that’s plenty to look forward to!

You can follow the adventures of Tripp Fenton every Sunday at www.sundystrips.com

Now for a quick and simple update on THE CABINET.
Christian Sager sent me the final script for the 5th and final chapter earlier this week! I’m finishing up chapter 4 this weekend. So, there are less than 30 pages to draw and THE CABINET is finished! I am going to post more on that later this week along with a new preview page or two. Thanks to everyone who has been waiting! Your patients is appreciated and will be paying off REALLY SOON!!

Got a couple other things going on right now, can’t wait to talk about them! For now, gotta get back to drawing them comics!

Oh, also, A couple kickstarter shout outs…

Memoirs of the Mysterious is an anthology featuring a ton of talented folks, somehow I drew a story that is included in it as well! Give it a look and consider it HERE

My good friend Jamie Guy, who some of you may remember as my collaborator on the old CO-OP web comic, is heading up development on a sweet new action platformer video game! I even did a little work on some of the characters. It’s getting down to it’s final days, so give it a look LOBODESTROYO!

Auctions to help comic creator Steve Niles after flood!

A lot of you may already know about the unfortunate circumstances that befell Steve Niles and Monica Richards a month or so ago when their home in Texas was flooded. They had barely got settled in to their new home when there was a flood that damaged the home and a lot of belongings as well as history. They have basically been displaced for now, but are doing well thanks to friends.

Steve has always been a pretty stand up guy when it comes to helping out others when they fall down. He’s put together numerous fundraisers for others in the comics community and is just a pretty alright guy.

Matt Miner (writer and creator of Liberator) has put together an Ebay auction to help raise a little money to help them and their animals out. A lot of people in the comics community have put up, books, original art, and script reviews. There are some amazing things to be had! Original art from the likes of Dave Wachter, Ben Templesmith, J.K. Woodward, Phil Noto and more! Signed comics from Greg Pak, Justin Jordan, Rafer Roberts and more! There are even script reviews from Ron Marz and Scott Snyder!

EBAY AUCTION TO HELP STEVE NILES!

The auctions end this Sunday evening, so check it out and maybe grab something and help out!

I also put a couple things in, see below:

There Be Monsters Over There!

It’s been a little while since I posted anything here. Poor little blog thingy being all ignored and stuff.
Been very busy closing in on the end of THE CABINET (and it’s getting close, I swear!). On top of that Christian Sager and I went to SPX and I made a week long trip out of it. It was a great time and so much amazing comics, I didn’t know where to start. We also ran straight from the show floor into D.C. on Friday and Saturday nights for the Black Cat 20 year anniversary shows. Man, that was amazing. So many awesome bands to see and some it was awesome just to see back together!

I’m just doing a short post to say “Hey, I’m still here!” and thought I’d share some October sketches too. I mean, why not, right?
In the next few weeks there will be a couple new things that are pretty exciting to talk about, so I’ll wait to ramble on stupidly until then.

I’ve been doing some sketches here and there over the last few weeks involving monsters and what not. Here are a couple…

Charlie Brown/The Gonz Mashup

Here we are, the final post in the 11×17 for $50.00 commissions! I’m posting this one later than the others because, well… I got around to doing it a little later than the others.

Following up yesterdays mashup is another classic skateboard graphic re-imagined with a comic character. BOTH of these are classics and actually represent important influences and inspirations for both worlds for me.
Mark Gonzales is an amazing skateboarder/artist/personality/person. His influence on skateboarding is insurmountable. His art a measure of his unique personality.
His chair wrestling skills unmatched, as proven in the hit blockbuster movie, GUMMO!

The request was to be combined with another legend. The classic nice guy can’t get a break flag carrier, Charlie Brown! Anyone who has ever read a Peanuts comic strip knows how amazing Charles Shulz characters are. How big an inspiration his creation has been on pop culture, or the modern world even. Odds are pretty great that the Peanuts comic strip had a hand in shaping who you are today. For comic people and creators, even more so!

While trying to think of a way to combine these two things I seemed to recall I had a stack of old zipztone sheets in a filing cabinet. Luckily, I was right! I forgot how awesome (and frustrating) it is to use these and it seemed like this was the perfect drawing to pull them back out for.
Again like yesterday, I need to go in and tweak the lettering again. By “tweak” I mean “get schooled”.

Here is a pic of the Gonz deck..

and here is the commission…

I went with more of a “inspired by” thing than a mash up but, I think you get the idea.

So, that’s that. I’m thinking about taking a couple other 11×17 for $50.00 requests over the next couple weeks. It’s basically just, if you are interested, email me at allmattersgreyATgmailDOTcom, I won’t be actively trying to fill slots. So no more mention from me on that (I think).

With that I leave you with another reminder that our SEVEN STONES ANTHOLOGY PROJECT KICKSTARTER is still going strong. Check it out if you haven’t!

Beast and Kevin Stabb Mad Scientist mashup

Today and tomorrows commissions are requests for classic skateboard graphics mixed with comic characters. I’m in a big rush today so I can’t write a lot, so look up Kevin Stabb, vert skater Maximus and his deck with the Mad Scientist graphic.

beast

I still need to tweak the lettering a bit. I never did like Stabbs lettering damn it!

Okay, I’m out the door!

Remember to support the SEVEN STONES project too!!

And check out the sweet deals in my SHOP!

Nosferatu VS. Dracula

For todays finished commission, I did something a little different. For one, the person requested a smaller size than the 11×17 I was doing for this round. The request itself was a little different too. I eventually decided to do it as a small comic strip, which seems to have been the best decision in the end. I was suppose to make Dracula look a bit more like Lugosi I think that wound up getting lost in the translation though. Either way, I think this is one of my favorites from this round of commissions.

nos vs drac

Unintentionally my daughter and I were watching the episode of Bob’s Burgers where Bob cuts his “finger crotch’ and has to go to the doctor and the kids end up opening an underground casino in the basement. Anyone who’s seen it knows the big exciting climax revolves around rock, paper, scissors. This all lead to a heated discussion between us due to my insisting that paper is inferior and no one plays it and it’s stupid. I have a blog and she doesn’t so that means I get the last word. HA!

In what should come as no surprise,I once again point your attention to the SEVEN STONES KICKSTARTER
Still chugging along. Next week there will be interviews with a lot of us Seven Stones contributors all week long. Of course I’ll post here when that starts. Because that’s what I doooooooo…. man.

P.S. I’m trying to sell some junk to help fund next months trip to SPX and various drawing supplies, check out my ETSY SHOP, lot’s O’ cheap stuff!

Bioshocks Andrew Ryan

Here we are at day 3. As a refresher, I’m posting the completed drawings from my recent batch of $50 for 11×17 commissions sale.

Today I’m posting Andrew Ryan from Bioshock, the brains behind the great city beneath the sea, Rapture. I’ve really loved the story and setting of these games. An amazing amount of attention and detail went into this (“these” maybe? Infinite is a different setting and all) world. Plus, it’s fun to electrocute fools by shooting electricity from your hand!

So, yeah, Andrew Ryan…
andrew ryan

So now I totally want to replay all the games again.

Aaaaannnd we are still plugging away on the SEVEN STONES anthology projects kickstarter. Still doing well thanks to everyone who swings by and supports and spreads the word. If you haven’t heard about it, please, go check it out now! NOW!! SEVEN STONES KICKSTARTER
