Here we are, the final post in the 11×17 for $50.00 commissions! I’m posting this one later than the others because, well… I got around to doing it a little later than the others.
Following up yesterdays mashup is another classic skateboard graphic re-imagined with a comic character. BOTH of these are classics and actually represent important influences and inspirations for both worlds for me.
Mark Gonzales is an amazing skateboarder/artist/personality/person. His influence on skateboarding is insurmountable. His art a measure of his unique personality.
His chair wrestling skills unmatched, as proven in the hit blockbuster movie, GUMMO!
The request was to be combined with another legend. The classic nice guy can’t get a break flag carrier, Charlie Brown! Anyone who has ever read a Peanuts comic strip knows how amazing Charles Shulz characters are. How big an inspiration his creation has been on pop culture, or the modern world even. Odds are pretty great that the Peanuts comic strip had a hand in shaping who you are today. For comic people and creators, even more so!
While trying to think of a way to combine these two things I seemed to recall I had a stack of old zipztone sheets in a filing cabinet. Luckily, I was right! I forgot how awesome (and frustrating) it is to use these and it seemed like this was the perfect drawing to pull them back out for.
Again like yesterday, I need to go in and tweak the lettering again. By “tweak” I mean “get schooled”.
Here is a pic of the Gonz deck..
I went with more of a “inspired by” thing than a mash up but, I think you get the idea.
So, that’s that. I’m thinking about taking a couple other 11×17 for $50.00 requests over the next couple weeks. It’s basically just, if you are interested, email me at allmattersgreyATgmailDOTcom, I won’t be actively trying to fill slots. So no more mention from me on that (I think).
With that I leave you with another reminder that our SEVEN STONES ANTHOLOGY PROJECT KICKSTARTER is still going strong. Check it out if you haven’t!
All 5 of these are magic. Nice job.
I had this exact Gonzalez deck (same color scheme) when I was a kid. Have been looking for it everywhere. Any idea where I can buy one?
