The Cabinet, an update and a new cover image.

I put together a new cover drawing for our graphic novel, THE CABINET today. I am planning to try and do a new one every day (or every other day) as we near the end of our kickstarter. The kickstarter is in the final stretch with 10 days remaining. We are at 55% funded as I write this.

THE CABINET, cover 1:

A great thing about kickstarter is how much it helps creators publish their own stories and keep control. I can’t thank all the people who have been supporting us thus far enough. It’s great to have so many people excited to see the story that Christian and I are trying to put out!
If you haven’t checked out THE CABINET KICKSTARTER, please, by all means, do so now…. I’ll wait…
We have added more rewards over the last week and yesterday announced that all hardcovers come with a sketch done by me inside the book. There is still 10 days and lots of time to help support this independent historical horror comic!
So, please, spread the word, contribute or both! We love you bunches for it!

Alphabooks- H is for Hermione Granger!

Originally I had planed to do Hagrid for my H but to stay in line with using the first name I decided to change it. I’m glad I did too! Of the three main kids in the Harry Potter books, I like Hermione the best. She’s kinda the glue that holds everything together and the oil that makes it run. Plus she is a smarty pants and tough and all that. Not to mention there isn’t anything wrong with a solid female role model who, for the most part, is because of the fact that she is smart.
Plus, she reads a lot. Seems appropriate here.

H is for Hermione Granger:

This is also probably one of my favorites I’ve done for the Alphabet projects so far.

If you have a minute and are a fan of things historical, horror and or cold, please check out the kickstarter for THE CABINET, a graphic novel written by Christian Sager and drawn by me.
Thanks!

The Rocket Raccoon Post

Our friends Tara and Mike in Michigan have a nice backyard and a deck filled with bird feeders. They also have a Turkey. I was on this back deck about a month or so ago drawing and looked up to my daughter and our friend Mike trying to get my attention so I would look behind me. I turned around and saw this huge turkey just walking around the yard. They have a garden back there and this turkey just started showing up in the yard. They put a little troth out there for her and she comes around all the time now.
Why am I telling you this? Because they also have raccoons. With all of the bird feeders they have a small colony of raccoons that like to show up at night and go for the seeds and such. So I always imagine Rocket Raccoon was leading the charge. Why? Because I’m a dork and I really like Rocket Raccoon.
So here is a drawing I did today of Rocket Raccoon.

So, that’s the story. Yes, I know, it really didn’t have anything to do with anything and I could have been like “So they’re making a Guardians of the Galaxy movie” but, meh.

I would also like to direct your attention to the kickstarter Christian Sager and I still have going to raise the funds to put out our historical horror graphic novel, THE CABINET. We only have 13 days left so, as usual, I ask if you can help with funding and or spreading the word.

Thanks, and remember, Rocket Raccoon is pretty awesome.

Alphabooks: G is for Grawp!

Another busy week! I had to find a quick minute to put something together for alphabooks and came up with Hagrids brother (Half brother? can’t really remember at the moment) Grawp. I remember seeing the movie version and being a little disappointed in the way he looked, but I think I got over it, or at the very least got use to it. I kinda did like the giant baby aspect of his face, much of which I think came from the expressions rather than facial structure.

G is for Grawp:

I’m actually looking forward to figuring out what to do for H.

In other news…
I am very stoked to be included in Guy Davis MARQUIS DIABLERIES! Some of you may have seen this drawing a while back but Guy added it this weekend and also gave a mention of our THE CABINET kickstarter.

What’s that? The Cabinet kickstarter? Yes, The historical horror graphic novel written by Christian Sager and drawn by me is still in kickstarter mode and we have 18 days left and $2225 of $6000 goal. Any help or word spreading is GREATLY appreciated!!! Click here !!

Christian also wrote a wonderful essay over the weekend on crowd funding that you should read.

Alphabooks: F is for Filius Flitwick!

I had a couple good choices for this week. In the end I wanted to go with a wizard character and a little dude. When I decided to do Filius Flitwick, I totally had the move rendition portrayed by Warwick Davis. Then I kinda seemed to recall reading something along the lines of Rowling not really digging the movie version of him (Though he appeared in two completely different forms). She said something like she just always envisioned him as a really tiny old man. So I decided to go that route…

F is for Filius Flitwick:

And there you go, on to G for next week.

Another Alphabook contributor, Christian Sager and I have a kickstarter going at the moment for our Historical Horror Graphic Novel, THE CABINET. Check it out and help spread the word maybe?

Madman vs. Space Meatballs… Yep, Space Meatballs.

Been working on comic pages for the last few weeks, between that and the alphabooks stuff, I realized I hadn’t really drawn anything just because I kinda like to draw. I enjoy the stuff I’m working on, but sometimes you just need to decompress and do a goof off drawing I guess.
I took a break from everything for the evening and ended up (gasp) drawing. I drew this picture of Mike Allred’s Madman

Yes those are indeed space meatballs. Why? I have no idea, seemed like a good idea at the time.

I’ve been a fan of Madman since back in the Tundra days. I also have been wanting to draw something with the character, so this happened. The meatballs are nothing more than on the spot genius…

You could also support Christian Sager and I’s historical horror graphic novel, THE CABINET. If you were so inclined I mean…

Alphabooks: E is for Ernie “Ern” Prang!

Another weekend of traveling and getting in late on a Monday. I am also busy finishing up last minute work for THE CABINET and it’s kickstarter that is beginning this Thursday. So this weeks Alphabook installment is another rush job.
I went with the crazy driver of the Knight Bus, Ernie Prang, or just “Ern” if you rather.

E is for Ernie Prang:

A man that drives way more appropriate than you.

I’m off to deal with other works and finish things up, also sleep. I am going to do that real soon…
I’ll be posting about the kickstarter in a couple days.

Alphabooks- D is for Dobby

Ha! It’s D day! (sorry)
I liked doing this one. I was going to try and do a different character, something that might have been a less obvious choice of Harry Potter character for D. Then I started coming up with ideas and couldn’t deny the power of Dobby.

D is for Dobby:

I think I’ve decided to try and finish out like this. Try and do full color as long as I have time and use the flat shading. I’ve become a bit obsessive about trying to keep these things uniform in their look and style. I may even go back and recolor A – C before everything is said and done. Then again I have a lot of other things to do, so, meh…

I liked the gentleness and curiosity of Dobby. Once he was freed, I imagine some of the simplest of things probably brought him hours of bewilderment and joy as he discovered them through newly freed eyes. Newly freed, giant saucer like eyes.
Enjoy.

Too Much Coffee Man!

Just got home from the follow up on the Paranormal investigation research today. Hopefully the first installment on this comic will be available here late next month or early August.
The other night I did a drawing of Shannon Wheelers Too Much Coffee Man. I thought I would share it here. He is a swell guy that does swell comics.

Now I’m off to do my D alphabooks drawing.
