Little known fact: When our daughter was born I wanted to name her “Powerslave”. My wife wouldn’t let me. While that actually isn’t “fact” it doesn’t mean that someone out there hasn’t perhaps done it or tried.
Yes, it is day 5 and I’m listening to studio album number 5, “Powerslave”. I have to make this one short so I can get back to drawing comics.
“Powerslave” is probably the album (or tour, rather) that saw the band make the quickest rise to popularity. The tour it’s self was one of their longest to date. It included a huge stage set reflecting the Egyptian theme of the album.
There was a lot of artwork released for this album I believe, I remember seeing 3 or 4 different tour shirts and then there was the artwork done for the singles “Aces High” and “2 Minutes to Midnight”.
The album cover featured a scene of a pyramid with Eddie as a pharaoh type feller. This Eddie is basically a statue so while he still looks like Eddie from the last album there isn’t a lot to report. One thing to note though is his Head bracket is very much still in place.
This album has “Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner” as the closing track. It is an awesome song but, it’s an awesome 14 minute song. As mentioned before, it also includes the opening track “Aces High”, which is another pretty well known song. Oh, one thing to note, the 1998 reissue of this has a slightly shorter version of the title track. They just moved the intro to the end of “Back in the Village”. So now that song is longer. Why did they do this you ask? Because they’re Iron Maiden. What the fuck are you gonna do about it?
Let’s do ACES HIGH
and
Track Listing:
1.”Aces High”
2.”2 Minutes to Midnight”
3.”Losfer Words (Big ‘Orra)”
4.”Flash of the Blade”
5.”The Duellists”
6.”Back in the Village”
7.”Powerslave”
8.”Rime of the Ancient Mariner”
I think one of the first Iron Maiden t-shirts I ever had was from this album. Eddie as a mummy bitting through his chains. Yes, biting through his chains is pretty damn bad ass, but wait! Theres more! He also has LIGHTNING COMING OUT OF HIS EYES AND SHIT!
So todays Eddie sketch is a sloppy tribute to the long lost shirt (that I totally wish I still had now):
